We briefly lost power for < 5s yet my system powered off. I checked later and found that I did NOT actually have any NUT UPS services running at the time. I have since enabled the services, they were properly configured.
When I check the status of my battery:

1. Is there anything there that looks suspect? For the system to turn off as quickly as it did, it is bizarre, the battery looks like it is charged here. The computer is plugged into the surge+battery side. I double-checked.
2. Is there a way I check test this without finding out the hard way?
Thanks, |

Yes, they're > 4 years old, so I'm thinking they're junk. But, I'd like to think they still have some life. |

They have enough life to run a LED light bulb for some number of hours. Lead cells are less efficient at high loads, and what a "high load" is for that cell depends on its health. _________________ µgRD dev

o5gmmob8,
The UPS should have done its thing anyway. The NUTS service allows it to tell the PC things, like to perform an orderly shutdown before the power runs out.
At 810w for two minutes, with batteries in good condition, it won't go for very long when they are not.
The maximum power the batteries can deliver drops with age too.
What is the battery voltage really, measured with a volt meter?
Two 12v nominal lead acid batteries in series should be about 26.4v on charge.
If they are low by 2v, you have a dud cell. It will quickly charge reverse polarity on discharge, so your 26.4v is down to about 22v, which is the same as a fully discharged battery. The UPS will probably detect that as fully discharged and shut down.
You don't need a PC as a test load. Something else, like a PC monitor will do.
Keep the test load under 800w though. _________________ Regards,
